Lonely Tonight [OG 1980's recording]

from Almost Night by The Palisades

/

about

“Lonely Tonight” was the first song JD and I truly wrote together. I put my lyrics and melody to JD’s music. In its day it was one of my favorite Palisades songs, but unfortunately, it has not aged well. In fact, I think despite some good parts, it’s a rather weak song. Despite its relative weakness as a song, it’s certainly high on pure straight forward Palisade energy.

lyrics

I've called you on the phone

I call but you're not home

Communication's barred

Tonight I wonder where you are

I bet you're having fun

While I'm home having none

I think of only you, alright

You think of only whose holding you tonight

It's been so long since I've held you tight

I know I can't be with you

And I feel so lonely tonight

What have we got to lose?

What have we got to lose?

How long must this go on?

How do I get along?

Don't I have the right?

To be with you tonight?

I don't like the feeling

Of when it's hard to let you go (and it's hard to let it go)

But if this has to be goodbye

This will be my only way to go

No one sounded like the Palisades in 1982 and 1983. The music they wrote and performed was the music of being young – a celebration of youth.
It was a magical time in a magical place…come on in
