Is The Time Right [OG 1980's recording]

from Almost Night by The Palisades

/

about

‘Is the Time Right’, along with ‘Something In Her Heart’ and ‘Disappear Away’ (and ‘Will Not Get Fooled’) were all recorded at the same session, our earliest studio representations of the band, in April 1982. “Is the Time Right” was a standard part of our early sets, and the “deflowering of the virgin” subject matter fit perfect with the Palisades image of prospective high school Romeos.

lyrics

In the backseat of his Plymouth, he lays her down

“Life is such a crazy thing, am I still too young?”

She’s nervous, wincing as she falls gently beneath him

He thinks “My God, she’s lovely still she’s not a woman yet”

He thinks maybe he should hold off at least another night

“I’m young, give it time, soon it’s gonna happen though”

He fumbles about awkwardly as her fingers melt down on his back

She feels all resistance fading as her legs wrap around him tight

Is the time right in my life

What would mommy say?

Would she think of me the same

If I went all the way?

“Have you been untrue to me girl?” he thinks and then forgets

Whispering she lays motionless on a seat moist with sweat

He puts his shirt on and bends to wet her forehead with a kiss

Thinking “in twenty years, will I still remember this?”

He smiles shyly, quietly with her nestled to his arm

She felt the need inside of her, it was done without no harm

He places the shift to “drive” and then cautiously puts to the gas

For two young lovers in their young lives

Tonight – the time was right

Is the time right in my life

What would daddy say?

Would he think of me the same

If I went all the way?

about

The Palisades Hawthorne, California

Dominating the South Bay music scene for two years (1982-1983), the Palisades were from Hawthorne CA (the same home of the legendary Beach Boys). Punk, Power pop, surf music, ska! No one sounded like the Palisades in 1982 and 1983. The music they wrote and performed was the music of being young – a celebration of youth.
It was a magical time in a magical place…come on in
