about
This is the second song from our never completed Sept. 1983 session, that also included ‘All Around the World’. What’s wrong with this? It sounds great – why didn’t we finish it? We lay down some absolutely solid basic tracks (bass and drums), and then leave it incomplete, with nothing but a scratch lead vocal, scratch guitar, and some half ass backup vocals, and then leave it to rot unfinished and unmixed. Oi Vey!
Though it’s frustrating and confusing as to why we would record a perfectly good performance, only to leave it incomplete and forgotten, I am grateful the multi-track was discovered, finished or not, so it could be posthumously remixed and sound somewhat finished. ‘Guilty’, like ‘All Around the World’, originally had no guitar solo, so JD cut one in 1996, and I think he also helped with some of the ‘guilty’ shouts on the breakdown.
Especially with JD’s proper tone, ‘Guilty’ was one of the hardest rockers we had performed, loaded with powerful catchy surf riffs everywhere. Eighteen year old Larry sounds absolutely great, impressively more solid, and much improved from the early days, on both ‘Guilty’ and ‘All Around the World’. I’ve always regretted that JD and I did not treat little Larry with more respect, back in the day. Bill Krodel could not complain about this performance! Both Danny and Larry just needed the time to become pros, that was all, but unfortunately for the Palisades, that time was nearly up. After this recording, the band would remain together for only three more months.
lyrics
I once tried to out run life
Found I ran on the edge of a knife
Though I thought I was moving ahead
I found life outrunning me instead
I learned –
Ain’t no one lese can solve all your problems
You’re going to have to solve them yourself
And if you’re having troubles with the answers
Don’t put the blame on anyone else
You’re guilty, guilty but carry no guiltiness
guilty, guilty but carry no guiltiness
I know a girl on the sad side of town
Love has always seemed to let her down
And so she hides in her room at night
Refuses to come out into the light
What do you think it is I should tell her?
Tell her to be more like me? ha!
Answers are only questions for questions
That is until you learn to be……
guilty, guilty but carry no guiltiness
guilty, guilty but carry no guiltiness
(guilty!) of caring for others reactions
(guilty!) of falling for others pettiness
(guilty!) you gotta stand for your own actions
you gotta, gotta, gotta accept it………..
guiltiness
