Goodbye Sadness [Re-recording]

from Almost Night by The Palisades

/

about

‘Goodbye Sadness’ was one of the first songs I wrote with JD, but as the band began rolling in mid-1982 the song was forgotten and never performed live.

‘Goodbye Sadness’ has a really great catchy chorus and a quasi-Ray Davies (of The Kinks) type of verse feel. It’s really sort of a friendly/nasty kiss off to a girlfriend, who, you can tell, would soon become an ex. The lyrics are a mixture of humor (“a not bad lay”), hope (“here’s to what we may find tomorrow”), anger (“from now on girl you I don’t know”) and happiness (“why feel sad when we should feel glad”). What’s conspicuously absent is the sadness.

lyrics

There’s no regrets, please no long goodbyes

We did the best that we could with our lives

And if our eyes shall never meet again

Keep in mind; I’m still a life long friend

Goodbye to sadness, goodbye to sorrow

Here’s to what we will find tomorrow

Let’s say farewell, cie la vie

And just move along

No room for tears, they’re now forgotten years

You’re free to roam without remorse or fears

If you must remember me, remember me this way

As a companion, a friend, and so I say…

Goodbye to sadness, goodbye to sorrow

Here’s to what we will find tomorrow

Let’s say farewell, cie la vie

And just move along

Goodbye to sadness, goodbye to sorrow

Here today and gone tomorrow

Let’s say farewell, cie la vie

And just move along

So I’ll move fast or I’ll move slow

But from now on girl you I don’t know

And why feel bad and why feel sad

When baby… we should feel glad

Goodbye to sadness, goodbye to sorrow

Here’s to what we will find tomorrow

Let’s say farewell, cie la vie

And just move along

Goodbye to sadness, goodbye to sorrow

Here today and gone tomorrow

Let’s say farewell, cie la vie

And just move along

The Palisades Hawthorne, California

Dominating the South Bay music scene for two years (1982-1983), the Palisades were from Hawthorne CA (the same home of the legendary Beach Boys). Punk, Power pop, surf music, ska! No one sounded like the Palisades in 1982 and 1983. The music they wrote and performed was the music of being young – a celebration of youth.
It was a magical time in a magical place…come on in
