All Around The World [Re​-​recording]

‘Almost Night’ kicks off with the very Beatlesque “All Around the World”. “All Around The World” was actually one of the first original songs the Palisades worked on. It was written in March 1982, but was not performed live until much later, starting in August of 1983. It was the only Palisades song co-written with Larry.

He had written the music on guitar, and I believe he had a majority of the melody completed when he passed it to me, to add some words to. I elaborated on the melody a bit, and came up with some rather simple lyrics that Larry thought were too “violent” for the song. I think he was mistaking my imagery for literalism. The lyrics were simply about a break up. The “shot” heard was not a pistol I pulled out to blow her head off, but the shocking, painful words of goodbye. I really enjoy the call and response vocals during the verses and the powerful buildup of the coda.
